"Here they are, the Jewish generation that was not to be, proud human being, the new link in an old chain."
The majority of The Cage, takes place in a small ghetto, in Lodz, Poland. This ghetto was created on December 10, 1939. For the people in the ghetto, they witnessed the effects of Hitler when he first came to power. Besides having to live in an isolated area, they weren't treated like they were even human, starved and beaten half to death by the Nazis. Jews weren't even aloud to walk on the sidewalk, they had to walk in the gutter on the road.
